JOB DESCRIPTION:          Substitute Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 64 Post-Secondary Hours
  2. Minimum 2.5 GPA

 

REPORTS TO:         Principal

 

JOB GOALS:            To establish a learning situation for students that will meet the needs of each student at his/her own level.  To ensure that each student will grow to his/her greatest intellectual ability, emotional development and psychological well being; and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Attends work daily, being in prompt attendance, and remains on duty as specified by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee.
  2. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  3. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  4. Implements the instructional programs and initiatives as established through district guidelines.
  5. Plans lessons based on state and/or national standards and uses instructional materials that meet the needs of students.
  6. Manages time wisely so as to make the greatest use of time for student instruction.
  7. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  8. Creates and maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  9. Maintains a highly established and consistent standard of student behavior and learning.
  10. Adheres to Student Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline from board and SBDM policies, and implements expectations for the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system.
  11. Evaluates student academic and social development on a regular basis. Evaluation will be maintained on appropriate records and a progress report on each student will be provided to parents and guardians according to district policy.
  12. Communicates, through the use of conferences and other methods, with parents on a regular basis.
  13. Participates in professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on the Continuous Improvement Cycle on a regular basis.
  14. Works with qualified school staff to meet and identify the needs of individual students in such areas as physical health, mental attitude and learning disabilities.
  15. Establishes an on-going system for professional growth through professional development programs, job embedded professional learning, and individual activities selected for self-improvement based on Professional Growth Plan.
  16. Maintains updated inventory records of classroom materials and requests appropriate supplies needed for the instructional program.
  17. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  18. Supervises all students under his/her direction at all times including extra duty assignments.
  19. Adheres to Professional Growth and Effectiveness system according to all state laws, regulations, and district Certified Evaluation Plan.
  20. Administers required student assessments according to district & state testing guidelines.
  21. Takes responsibility for assessment literacy in the classroom. Gathers dependable and quality information about student achievement and uses information effectively to maximize student achievement. 
  22. Plays an active role in curriculum development.
  23. Keeps all necessary records according to state law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  24. Serves on school and/or district committees as assigned.
  25. Shares responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  26. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others.
  27. Attends all open house events, parent/teacher conferences, and other professional meetings required by the principal.
  28. Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
  29. Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
