QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Kentucky Certification as Principal.
  2. Five (5) years successful teaching experience.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of current curriculum and instructional trends and techniques.

 

REPORTS TO:         Superintendent

 

JOB GOALS:            To use instructional leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.  The Principal, under the supervision of the Superintendent, is accountable for the overall performance of the school and to maintain a climate and culture that promotes and is conducive to promoting high expectations for all staff and students.  To support the mission statement of the Estill County School System.  To adhere to all district policies and procedures and all state laws and regulations.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Attends work daily, being in prompt attendance, and remains on duty as specified by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee.
  2. Develops and implements Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), resulting in measurable improvement in student performance results. Adheres to state timelines and district policies.
  3. Prepares for and conducts regular faculty meetings on pertinent school problems and improvement of instruction.
  4. Conducts/facilitates regular Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on the Continuous Improvement Cycle.
  5. Builds and supports assessment literacy in the school. Gathers dependable and quality information about student achievement and uses information effectively to maximize student achievement.
  6. Directs and supervises all instructional personnel assigned to the school building, certified and classified.
  7. Coordinates and communicates closely with the Site Based Decision Making Council, the school parent-teacher association and other parent or volunteer groups.
  8. Establishes and maintains a school wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system.
  9. Administers reasonable punishment for student disorder or other violation of rules, including suspension of students subject to applicable Board policies.
  10. Supervises and directs the cafeteria staff and the operation of the cafeteria.
  11. Gives final approval of the scheduling of extra-curricular events.
  12. Supervises the keeping of all internal accounts, school enterprises and activities, promote school exhibits, and annually directs preparation of a comprehensive annual school budget for the Superintendent’s consideration.
  13. Confers with the Superintendent and/or Asst. Superintendent for personnel concerning recommendation of employees for employment or re-employment each school year.
  14. Assigns curricular, extra-curricular, and other duties to all employees within his/her supervision.
  15. Evaluates all certified staff pursuant to Board policy. Implements the Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES) according to all state laws, regulations, and district Certified Evaluation Plan.
  16. Evaluates all classified staff pursuant to board policy.
  17. Supervises and evaluates Family Resource/Youth Service Center Director and Center programs.
  18. Oversees the overall implementation of federal and state programs and resources. Ensures that all required documentation and reports are maintained appropriately according to district and state timelines.
  19. Develops and implements school Professional Learning Plan according to state requirements and provides job embedded Professional Learning activities according to school and district needs.
  20. Conducts regular classroom walkthroughs to improve the overall improvement of instructional strategies, to ensure rigor is at the appropriate level, and to make certain school and district initiatives are being implemented with fidelity.
  21. Develops an annual program of public relations in order that the community may understand and support the educational program; develops and publicizes rules and regulations for the conduct of and restrictions on visitors to the building.
  22. Provides oversight supervision of the athletic program to ensure that it operates within the rules and regulations of the Board and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
  23. Notifies parents as soon as possible in the event of illness, accident or injury to a student; summoning emergency medical service and/or local or state police.
  24. Directs annual review of the teacher handbook and coordinates review of the school curricular guide.
  25. Attends all state and district mandated meetings.
  26. Implements school Response to Intervention (RtI) Plan required by law to ensure ALL students receive additional instructional time/support required to meet Kentucky Core Academic Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards.
  27. Chairs SBDM Council and adheres to all state regulations regarding council functions and policies.
  28. Ensures that curriculum taught is aligned to state standards and is at the rigor level required for student achievement.
  29. Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
  30. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Days and salary pursuant to district salary schedules.
