JOB DESCRIPTION:          Paraeducator

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Meets No Child Left Behind (NCLB) criteria of
    completion of 48 hours of credit at an institution of
    higher learning or meets a testing qualification.
  3. General clerical ability including word processing.

REPORTS TO:         Classroom teacher and Principal

 

JOB GOALS:            To provide high quality support for the classroom teacher(s); and to
                        support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Attend work daily, be in prompt attendance and remain on duty as specified by the Superintendent of the Superintendent’s designee.
  2. Tutors individuals or small groups of students, reinforces and implements instruction as directed by the teacher; maintains records of student progress.
  3. Participates as member of an instructional team including remediation teams.
  4. Prepares and organizes lessons as directed by the teacher; administers and scores a variety of tests according to established guidelines; assists in determining English proficiency of identified students.
  5. Assists in administering diagnostic and other tests; scores and records test information.
  6. Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior; checks and assists students with lab work as necessary.
  7. Performs routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operates copy machines; maintains classroom records; maintains attendance records.
  8. Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operates audio-visual equipment, operates educational training equipment and distributes and collects paper and supplies.
  9. Assists in overseeing students while in labs; provides for supplies inventory as necessary.
  10. Assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  11. Confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  12. Contacts parents of students who are absent; makes home visits as necessary.
  13. Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  14. Directs group activities of students as assigned; assists in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned; assists in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  15. Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  16. Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
  17. Performs related duties as assigned.
