JOB DESCRIPTION:          Bus Driver

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 21 years old with a High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. No accidents (chargeable last 3 years).
  3. No moving violations last 3 years.
  4. Satisfactory completion of all pre-employment training (including CDL).
  5. Freedom from use of alcohol or drugs.
  6. Pass a 5-year driving record check.
  7. Successful on all test requirements.
  8. Pass an annual physical.

 

REPORTS TO:         Transportation Director

 

JOB GOALS:            To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular programs; and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Obeys all traffic laws.
  2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  3. Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
  4. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  5. Keeps assigned bus clean daily.
  6. Adheres to assigned schedule and drives assigned route.
  7. Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and completes post-trip check at end of each route.
  8. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure.
  9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  10. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  11. Transports only authorized students.
  12. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  13. Enforces regulations against eating and using tobacco products on the bus.
  14. Attends work regularly and on time.
  15. Attends annual 8-hour update.
  16. Delivers bus to garage for assigned inspections.
  17. Fuels bus when needed.
  18. Checks inside of bus after morning and afternoon routes for students that may still be on the bus.
  19. Maintains a neat and clean personal appearance.
  20. Completes and returns time sheets and other paper work in a timely manner.
  21. Keeps the Transportation Director informed of any route changes due to road conditions, number of students transported and other appropriate information.
  22. Supervises students while loading, unloading, or waiting for other buses.
  23. Assigns seats to students as needed and fills out a seating chart.
  24. Maintains a student list that includes name, address, phone number, and parent name for each student.
  25. Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
  26. Performs other services as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:        Days and salary pursuant to district salary schedules.
