JOB DESCRIPTION: Substitute Cook
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the responsibilities listed below.
REPORTS TO: Food Service Director/Principal/Cafeteria Manager
JOB GOALS: To serve the students attractive and nutrition meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness; and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend work daily, be in prompt attendance and remain on duty as specified by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee.
- Follows the manager’s instructions in food production and service.
- Uses objectives and subjective indicators to evaluate food quality.
- Measures and/or weighs ingredients according to instructions.
- Follows standardized recipes.
- Uses equipment correctly.
- Follows assigned work schedule.
- Uses correct utensils for preparation and serving.
- Assembles food and other supplies necessary to prepare recipes.
- Follows manager’s instructions in portion control, merchandising and serving food.
- Follows standards to check temperature of food and equipment.
- Inspects returned trays of food to assess amount of food eaten versus waste and refers these concerns to the manager.
- Follows meal pattern requirements in serving student meals.
- Prepares and serves food according to standards related to sanitary conditions.
- Operates and cleans equipment according to procedures.
- Uses, cleans and stores knives and potentially dangerous small equipment items according to procedures.
- Follows work schedules required for the cleaning of work areas, utensils and equipment.
- Follows established procedures to maintain effective insect and rodent control systems.
- Be physically able to lift 30-40 pounds using the correct lifting procedures.
- Follows the school district’s first aid procedures.
- Knows school district’s procedure for the use and operation of fire extinguishers.
- Reports accidents and potential safety hazards to the manager or immediate supervisors.
- Practices safe grooming habits as determined by school district policy.
- Assists with inventories as needed.
- Accurately maintains required forms and records as assigned by manager.
- Participates in implementing cost containment measurers while maintaining quality.
- Participates in promoting nutrition education and follows instructions for such activities as preparing food for tasting parties and conducting cafeteria kitchen tours for students as required by classroom teachers.
- Participates in implementing promotion of special school and community activities consistent with school district policies.
- Participates in local school district in-service meetings and training programs for School Food Service Assistants.
- Participates in area, state and national workshops and other professional growth activities as opportunities are made available.
- Participates in professional association activities.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and/or staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days and salary pursuant to district salary schedules.
